Instructions
Step 1: Rinse the Rice: Using a strainer rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from being too sticky. Place the rinsed rice, water, and salt in the Instant Pot.
Step 2: Cook Rice: Close the Instant Pot lid, ensuring the valve is set to the sealing position. Set the Instant Pot to Pressure Cook mode on High for 3 minutes. Allow the Instant Pot to release pressure naturally for 10 minutes after the cooking cycle completes.
Step 3: Fluff the Rice: Open the Instant Pot and fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. This helps achieve a light and fluffy texture.
Hint: It is best to let the Instant Pot naturally release pressure.
Equipment Recommendations
- Instant pot- The Instant Pot, is a versatile electric pressure cooker. The pressure cooking method ensures even heat distribution and seals in moisture, resulting in consistently fluffy and tender grains.
- Cup measure- Accurate measurements are crucial for achieving the right rice-to-water ratio. Measuring cups ensure precision in following the recipe, helping you avoid undercooked or mushy rice.
- Sieve- Rinsing Cal Rose rice under cold water is a critical step to remove excess surface starch.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat with a splash of water in the microwave or on the stovetop.
Top tip
Remove rice once done cooking if opened and left in the instant pot it ends up sticking to the bottom and sides. If you need to keep warm then keep the instant pot sealed until ready to serve.
Recipe FAQs
Can cooked Instant pot Calrose rice be frozen?
Yes!! This is my favorite thing to do. Cook extra rice when making it in the instant pot and after the rice cools add to a freezer gallon ziplock bag. Freeze for up to 6 months. When making a meal that asks for rice you have ready cooked rice.
Can I double the recipe?
Of course! Although I wouldn't add more than 4 cups of uncooked rice. Once cooked you don't want it to overfill the instant pot. Use a 1:1 ratio for cooking rice and double up as much as you need.
How much-cooked rice comes from 1 cup of rice?
1 cup of uncooked Calrose rice makes 3 cups of cooked rice.
