Natural dyed Easter eggs
The perfect way to dye easter eggs the natural way. Kids love the vibrant colors I love the natural ingredients that go into making the dyes.
Equipment
- clean panty hose
- leaves such as parsley
Ingredients
- 1 head red cabbage
- 2 lbs beets
- 4 tablespoon tumeric
- 18 white eggs
- 3 tablespoon white distilled vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- In a large pot add water and a teaspoon of salt bring to a boil and then add 18 eggs, cook for 7 minutes. Drain hot water and refill pot with ice cold water. Let sit aside while you prepare the dyes.
- Chop your head of cabbage and 2lbs of red beets into large chunks. Place veggies into seperate pots. Then fill with water about 4 cups or to just cover the cabbage or beets.
- In small quart pot add 4 cups of water and 4 tablespoon of tumeric.
- Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to each pot.
- Place all 3 pots onto stove top and bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes covered.
- After the dyes have simmered for 30 minutes then let them cool down.
- While the dyes are cooling prepare your eggs if you choose to add leaf designs. Place an egg with your choice of leaves, I like to use ferns and parsley leaves into clean pantyhose. Then tie a knot and insert the next egg and so on.
- Once dyes half cooled off strain the liquid into seperate bowls. Then add in your eggs either plain or dressed inthe pantyhose. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap and let sit for 3 hours for the deepest color. You can check in on the eggs and watch until the reach your desired color. **check the color list
- When the eggs have finished resting in the dye. Remove eggs into bowl and wipe extra liquid off eggs. Enjoy your beautifully colored eggs.
